Hi Kerre
Here’s my story - I am a mum of a one year old and at the beginning of the year I was struggling to walk to the vege garden and back. I had had enough and put on about 10 kilograms since the birth of my baby so on 31/12/07 (actually wasn’t a New Years resolution) I set myself a goal of losing 30kg, and being a fitter and healthier mother to my daughter. Through daily walking and healthy eating the weight started coming off
and once I reached 100kg I started a run/walk training programme. In April I signed up to a 12 week gym weight loss programme and as the weight came off the belief in my ability grew. With encouragement from a marathon running friend, and my husband I entered a half marathon walk. 6 weeks of intensive training later I completed it in 3 hours and 5minutes. Unfortunately I completed it 10 minutes faster than my last
21km training walk and my husband missed me crossing the line by about 5 minutes!! Thus no exhausted, exhilirated and red faced finish line shot. Worse than that even the official event website doesn’t have a photo of me. So the only evidence I have is the blisters on my heels, my race number and my memories.
Another 4 kg to go to my goal, my first duathlon in a month, and I think I may have the “event bug”.

(Ailsa finally tracked down the photo from the Moro Marathon and here she is! Looking good, too!)

Hi Alisa, congrats on your weight loss and no what you mean about the event bug. I also completed my first 1/2 marathon this year and had to miss one cause I broke my leg, but am going to do some more next year. Good luck with your duathlon.
Cheers Jackie
To Alisa
The event bug is great. Congradulations on your first half. You
will get an even bigger BUZZ when you finish your duathlon,(I did a womens tri early on this year, huge high crossing that line) best luck with the training. Keep it up
Joanna
Ailsa…. Well done on both the weight loss and the half. I know how great it is to do the first, and am soon to find out how good it is to do the second.
Good luck with your duathlon and those final kilos
Michelle
thanks guys. The blisters have healed and I am back into training for the duathlon. Did a 22.5km bike the other morning and my first run/walk in a while yesterday. I hurt my back last weekend so didn’t move far for a couple of days. Fortunately it seems to have only been a tweak and no lasting effects.
